There are many books you can buy
that describe these, and other fundamental marketing methods in
depth, but it is my intent to give you a quick review of what you
need to know to get your marketing campaign off the ground. We can
help. We have worked these strategies ourselves, and we have
helped clients get their marketing off the ground.
Who am I to give you this “expert”
advice? I am not a marketing guru by any stretch of the
imagination. I started my sales/marketing career with 3M, then
several smaller companies before I joined NCR in 1976. Talk about
training! NCR was, and I am sure still is famous for training
their sales/marketing people well. After NCR I spend some time as
a National Marketing Director for a computer firm in Toronto.
But, although the training served me well – it wasn’t until I left
the corporate world and branched out on my own as a “consultant”
that I realized the street is different from the corporate
marketing stuff I had learned. No longer did I have a BRAND. I no
longer had a multi-million budget with a string of creative ad
agencies at my beck and call. No one called after I set up my home
office. All my corporate contacts mysteriously lost interest in
me. Starting up a solo business on a shoe string – good luck. That
was back in 1988.
I learned because I had to learn. Once I figured out the basics,
my business has provided for my family, although the millions of
$$$$ that people talk about one can earn has eluded me. But you
know what – I enjoy what I do. My clients for the most part are
very happy with my work, and at the end of the day – I sleep
nights. Most of my clients for the past several years have been
small law firms. I have learned a lot, and I want to share with
you some of the methods successful lawyers use to grow their
practice.
It is my simple wish that I can give you a few tips, a few fresh
ideas that you can use today. To bring in a couple of clients.
Then it’s up to you to provide the level of service they expect.
