MARKETING?
Lawyer
marketing is preparing the potential client for the
"close". Traditional lawyer marketing is the process of building
confidence, branding and getting the prospect to take an action.

In your case it would be to contact your office for an initial
consultation. A good lawyer marketing effort will also prepare
the prospect for the initial meeting by providing some basic information
about you and your service. This way the potential client is somewhat

Don’t confuse lawyer marketing with rainmaking. The latter is an
outcome. Lawyer marketing is a process. It is developing
contacts, building a reputation, a brand and creating positive
relationships. Have a day-to-day marketing plan and the rainmaking will
come all by itself. It is an investment in your future.

For example, you have access to let’s say a market area of 50,000
seniors (if you are a lawyer dealing with seniors). Create a marketing
plan to direct-mail 500 a month, speak to 30 a month and have personal
contact with 10. The numbers will work with you and you will have a
steady stream of clients. |

Marketing was NOT part of your
curriculum. You don’t know where to start. You don’t like to be rejected,
you expect to hang up a shingle and people will come. You don’t want to be
seen as a hustler, beggar or a sales person.

when potential clients call you and want to hire you to solve their
problems.
Most lawyers “do lawyer marketing” because they have to. They are
running out of business, they need to do something. Mailings go out
telling people what you DO. And that you NEED them, maybe in not so many
words but still….
